Summer 2025 Update

Mini Summer Olympics - A Mini School Tradition
For the final months of the Mini Olympics, all five grades continued to compete to be crowned the champions of the mini school Olympics. The five remaining events were Spikeball, Tug of War, Five-Corner Soccer, Ultimate, and Handball, bringing out the best in every grade, showcasing athleticism, dedication, and hard work. The Grade 12s won four of the five, dominating in the final games, only losing in handball, which was won by the Grade 11s. Ultimately, the final standings were Grade 12s first, followed by Grade 10s, Grade 9s, Grade 11s, and lastly, Grade 8s. As the Grade 12s leave the school, they leave a winning legacy and a challenge for future classes to rise to the occasion.

Buddy Group Competition Results
Throughout this year, the Buddy Group competition has been fierce, with teams of students in different grades battling it out through different games requiring skills such as communication, athleticism, and problem-solving. The playoffs were incredible, with all teams battling it out to make it to the finals. Ultimately, the winners were the Wolf Pack, led by Connor and Jerry in Grade 12. Other members include Emily and Felicity in Grade 11, Felix and Dario in Grade 10, Griffin in Grade 9, and Katharine, Ian, and Chloe in Grade 8. Their hard work and dedication have shown as they battled it out in the finals to be crowned as the buddy group champions.

Ms. I addressing the Year End Picnic attendees and the graduating Mini 12s.

Mini Year End Picnic: Goodbye Mini 12s and hello incoming Mini 8s!

The Mini School picnic was held on June 4th, with all of the students in the mini school attending alongside the families. We were also honoured to have many past graduates attending the Mini picnic, meeting up and congratulating our graduates. The evening started with a game of manhunt where all students participated as well as the Grade 7 icebreaker, followed by gifts for our amazing Mini teachers, and capped off by the sending off of the Grade 12s by the Grade 11s as per Mini tradition. The heartfelt gifts and emotional speeches delivered by the Grade 11s were heartwarming and funny, with stories about memories made and experiences with their chosen Grade 12. Several graduating students were recognized with awards and scholarships for their outstanding dedication to the Mini School. Whether through volunteer work, service, or academic excellence, these individuals demonstrated consistent commitment throughout their years in the program. In particular, four students — Phoebe, Caroline, Rebecca, and Euan — were honoured for their significant contributions to the Mini community. The night ended with one last Mini Dance, where incoming Grade 7 students had a chance to experience their first Mini School dance. Everyone had lots of fun, and it was a memory and experience that everyone will remember.

Spy vs. Spy 🎯

Spy vs Spy is a beloved Mini School tradition where each student is secretly assigned a target—another student in the program—and must “eliminate” them, typically by splashing them with water or using a water gun. The game demands strategy, stealth, and constant vigilance, as players must both protect themselves from their pursuer and track down their target. After weeks of suspense and surprise eliminations, Madison from Grade 11 emerged as the ultimate victor, showcasing her determination, clever tactics, and drive to claim the coveted cash prize. 💰

Goodbye to Seniors

As the seniors end their mini journey, we would like to quickly reflect on their journey. They started as the COVID group, where they were all separated because of the infamous quarter system, online classes, and navigating the challenges of making new friends in such an environment. To acting out The Crucible and popcorn shenanigans, the COVID years were a rough one for sure. Then, everything went back to normal. We got our first Strathcona trips, ski trip, and the COVID group finally got to experience some of the most wonderful aspects of the Mini. Over the past year, the Grade 12s have gotten a lot closer, and we hope they can add onto those missed years taken away from COVID in their university lives by keeping in touch during their breaks at university. We hope they continue their successes and utilize the skills taught in Leadership 12 by Ms. I with their upcoming challenges as adults. On behalf of our entire class, we would like to thank our Mini teachers who have put up with our very talkative class and mentored us to the young adults we are today, and we will be sure to visit. Our class will all be attending post-secondary where we will be scattered across North America at UBC, McGill, SFU, UCLA, Brown, TMU, U of T, Harvard, McMaster, Western, and UVic.
